A Time of Prayer/Sharing & Tim’s Discussion on the Judgment of God
Immanuel Sun talks about the erroneous tendency in today’s Christian practices to pray for mercy in God’s judgement rather than allowing it to come. Paul said that one should judge themselves first so that you yourself will not be judged. As God’s people, our marriage to the world must end. We are specifically told in the Bible that we must be set apart from it. To continue to pray for God to hold back His judgement as man continues to insist on sinking deeper and deeper into his sin with no heart intent to be changed, is contradictory to God’s ways. Prayers like this merely ask God to stoop down to the level of man’s love and compassion and to abandon His ways of love, wisdom, and judgement.
Along this same topical direction, Tim Pinson, Jr. talks about the need for understanding that to continuously cry out for repentance instead of judgement is very misguided request of God when not taking into account God’s ways and his purpose for mankind. Certainly God honors the repentance of his people, but He does not do so just to forsake judgement. In our hearts there is this resistance to change, the kind of change that God’s righteous judgement will eventually bring about. When we cry out for mercy from this place, we deny God’s plan and His ways from an eternal perspective.
