The Family Culture of God – 001 – Introduction – 01
As a “curriculum requirement”, I strongly suggest that you review the listed scriptures before you listen to these teachings.
- Jesus (John 14-15)
- Peter (1 Pet. 1-2)
- Paul (Eph. 1, 2 Cor. 6:11-7:11)
- The Author of Hebrews (Heb. 2:5-3:8, 11:39-12:28)
In this session, we introduced the concept of the Family Culture of God in the New Testament. Thru the above scriptures, we can clearly identify God’s desire to have a family of sons and the purpose He has for them. That is to have a people set apart for Him (a holy people) who will embrace, practice, represent and teach (disciple) others of His culture (kingdom) of life.
Here are some of the key points we discussed:
- Jesus Christ, as the Word of God, or the pattern life of Sonship in God, revealed God as our Heavenly Father to mankind. He showed us the way to eternal life.
- In the new spiritual life thru our faith in the Son of God, the hope of our glory (a life in God’s glory, or in His likeness), we are not to be merely another specimen of spiritual or “anointed” individual without a spiritual family (household) or a spiritual kingdom (government). Rather, through this faith or hope, we are called and will be built into the Family of God the Father as a son or a family member (brother of Jesus and co-heir with Him) and the Kingdom of Christ Jesus as a citizen or an official (a priesthood under His Name, a chosen people or the church under His headship as a representation of His ministry in Heaven).
- Love of the Father to us and the world is that we are made to be part of the Corporate Sonship (one spiritual man) as His family. We thus become a family of sons of God thru and with Christ Jesus our Lord. Because of this, our love unto God has to be matured or perfected as our love unto Him as our Father, with the practice (discipline or discipleship) of our brotherly love as a family of sons of God.
- In this light, it is of paramount importance that we learn to embrace the pure purpose of God, and passionate desire of our heavenly Father as a work of true repentance and ultimate restoration, as personal spiritual journey during our life on earth, but also as a family of God’s people thru the ages of this creation.
In the next session, we will continue to expound on the Fatherhood of God, esp. in the light of why Jesus claimed that His life or His teachings and His ministry is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets.
